torrents and the pain they cause
Why does my computer download torrents at sub snail speeds? I've been working on this god damn expansion for 7 hours now and the eta is another 7 hours. I'm suppose to have 10mb cable yet the download speed is averaging at 213 kb/s. This is not fun.

Try turning off all uploads.
It may increase your performance. I forget the exact wording w/o being at my comp.
Either that, or turning your upload rates WAAAAAAY down and your download rates way up.

setting my upload waay down just made my download speed drop to 3 from 200ish which is crappy.. if only I had just gone with the patcher from the get go its downloading at the same speed but at least it was only 6 gb instead of 9.5

Patcher through DFO instead of the Torrent?
I tried this morning 4 times before I left for work. Both were running extremely and painfully slow. I shut them all down and just accepted the fact it'd have to wait until I got home to try again as trying the patcher again failed 5 times in a row and I was starting to run late for work.
I'll just try the patcher and say screw the Torrent, hearing bad things about the Torrent DLing from every corner of the map...

86% off of Torrent. It's picked up a lot of speed since school ended for the day. LOL

It has picked up a bit but I want to know how the hell people are downloading at 1+mb/s there has to be some trick to speeding this up that I just don't know about.

I'm downloading via the patcher from home and via these links from work:
ftp://ownsun-media.de/incoming/Darkfall/
The patcher would finish around midnight by itself. I'm hoping to be finished by 8p or so with this strategy.

I started the torrent as soon as I got home (about 40 mins ago), up to 22% at ~800kb. The patcher, which did nothing for me this morning but timeout on me, was going between 250 and 500ish kb. Stickin' with the torrent, we'll see how long it takes for me to get in.
It's ok for me if it takes a while to download, however, as tonight is the first Flyers game of the regular season. I'll be watching that until either the Flyers win or get ass-rammed by Pittsburgh.

Re: torrents and the pain they cause
I'm not a whiz at this whole thing, but i set my max download speed to 999kb (read somewhere once that if you set it to something like that instead of keeping it at unlimited, it can help), also set maximum number of connected peers per torrent to 25, maximum number of upload slots per torrent to 5. Not sure if any of this actually did something for me, but now i'm hovering around 900kb, so i'll take it. =D

Re: torrents and the pain they cause
holy crap I just found an auto configure option thingy and now its up to 1mb/s
edit: nm.. I did the setup wizard for u torrent and my download rate went through the roof for a bit but now its down to 600ish still better than 200 though.
edit2: Finished torrenting and copied the files as instructed and the patcher is still going through a 6gb patch...

Mine Dled the patch in less than 5 hours using the games patcher. I just started it, went to my sisters bday party and it was done before I sat down at the pc just now.

Remember that some ISPs such as Comcast and ATT and Mediacom use what is call a FAP or Fair Access Programming policy that allows them to basically screw with downloads if they feel you are using up to much bandwidth, Utorrent will even tell you directly on there site that Comcast does it to torrent downloads, that is usually the reason it goes up and down like it does sometimes.
